Federer and Nadal have the greatest rivalry in sports today, and perhaps the finest in tennis history.
They have played 21 times in 10 different countries, 17 times in a final and seven times in a Grand Slam final. They have met on hard courts, clay courts, grass courts and indoor courts. Once, at an exhibition, they played on a court that was clay on one side and grass on the other. Their 2008 Wimbledon final is still described as the finest spectacle tennis fans have ever seen.
But there is one venue where the titans have not met – the U.S. Open. Last year we almost got one: ”Federer-Nadal Final in the U.S. Open this Sunday Night?” but there is never been a better time for them to play out their legendary rivalry in the Big Apple for the first time.
Only the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in a tournament are guaranteed not to meet before the final, and both Federer and Nadal have dropped to No. 3 at various times this season.
But for the moment, the now-legendary rivals have re-established their stranglehold on the men’s game. After Federer won in Australia, Nadal took over when the clay season began, going undefeated on his beloved red dirt in Paris and following up with a win on the slicker grass courts at Wimbledon.
Federer re-emerged as the tour returned to hard courts a few weeks ago, reaching the final of the Toronto Masters and winning the Cincinnati Masters. He, too, relishes the prospect of a meeting with Nadal in two weeks’ time.
Nadal is healthy; Federer is in form. The chances of their long-awaited meeting in the Big Apple have never been better.

First there’s the swimsuit model Dallys Ferreira who has offered to “make love to each member of the Paraguay World Cup team” if they lift the trophy and now there’s the lingerie model Larissa Riquelme who has just further ignited this year’s football summer by pledging to run naked through the streets if her nation wins the World Cup!
Are you rooting for Paraguay now?
The gorgeous football fanatic is not the first person to promise to streak in the event of a World Cup win. Argentina’s coach Diego Maradona was the first prominent person to issue such a guarantee, and his team has also made the quarterfinals.

Swimsuit model Dallys Ferreira has offered to “make love to each member of the Paraguay World Cup team” if they lift the trophy, adding, “The players know my pledge still stands. Women from my country are ardent, and to be honest, I’m more ardent than most. I take no notice of societal norms.”

The new 458 Italia is the successor to the immensely popular F430 sports car.
It signals a massive leap forward from the best-selling F430, thanks to technology from Formula 1 racing. The cab- forward shape, with long sloping flanks and triple exhaust pipes, was fashioned by aerodynamics rather than style. Special venting directs air through and around the car.
The 458 transports you to 60 mph in some 3.2 hair-burning seconds (mama mia!).
How can this be? For one, maximum engine power is achieved at a boggling 9,000 revolutions per minute. Most cars redline at less than 7,000 rpm, so that’s the equivalent of the Dow Jones suddenly shooting to 18,000 — it’s just not supposed to happen.
The driver can dial in the level of Jekyll versus Hyde with a five-mode system on the steering wheel, called the manettino. Choose from quiet boulevard cruising to general sport mode all the way up to Felipe Massa master.
Steering is sharper than any other car out there; most turns are made with a wiggle. Even hairpin corners are achieved barely moving your hands.
All of the controls, including lights and blinkers, are now found on the steering wheel itself, so you never have to take your hands off.
The Ferrari 458 Italia at a Glance
- Engine: 4.5-liter V-8 with 562 horsepower and 398 pound- feet of torque
- Transmission: 7-speed double-clutch automated manual with paddle shifters
- Speed: 0 to 60 mph in about 3.2 seconds
- Gas mileage per gallon: 15 combined city and highway
